Our house is upside down at the moment but its starting to take shape and things are getting exciting!

This mirror has moved with me 3 times, from Harrow, Bushey to Watford! I cannot bare to part with it.

A lick of white chalk paint and up it will hang in the en suite, so fancy!
.
I've got a few other bits of furniture that will also be getting a drenching of white chalk paint.
.
We discard of so much furniture, the amount of furniture in good condition that ends up at the local dump is phenomenal.
.
We have sold/given away some bits the thought of good things being thrown away is enough to tip me over the edge 🤣 unlike Russell who I constantly have to keep an eye on because if you leave it unattended long enough it will most definitely end up in the bin or our local dump!
.
The chalk paints I've sourced is @makeitrustoleum no need for sanding or undercoat. Use their wax to finish.

There are so many reasons I made the switch, as humans brushing twice a day we can consume alot of harmful chemicals by using conventional toothpaste brands!

Natural toothpaste whether its tablet, powder or gel works just as effectively minus the toxic ingredients - lets take a look at a few of the ingredients in traditional paste!
.
Artificial sweetneres such as saccharine has been linked to cancers such as bladder.
.
Propylene Glycol, the main ingredient in anti freeze is used to give paste a soft texture.
.
Carrageenan is used to thicken paste hut also carry links to colon cancer and ulcers.
.
These are just 3, there are much more!

Natural toothpaste comes fluoride free but fluoride alternatives are available.
.

Who still buys bottles of water?

I have friends who don't like to drink tap water and still continue to buy multiple packs of water bottles!
.
Biodegradable bamboo charcoal water filters. Reusable, then compostable and zero waste. Suitable for a 1 litre jug of water.
A pack of 4 packed in a reusable natural cotton bag.
Place the filters in jug or bottle filled with tap water and they will slowly filter out impurities such as chlorine and chloramines.
Compostable at the end of their life but also can be reused in many useful ways throughout your home.
.
Use approx: 1 litre jug = 3 – 4 pieces; 2 litre jug = 6 – 8 pieces
1. Wash in running water to remove powder (do not use detergent).
2. Boil for 10 mins in a pan of water to sterilise & allow to cool and dry.
3. Place in a jug and fill with tap water (charcoal may float when new but it will tend to sink after a week or so of use).
4. Leave for 8 hours or more for best results. You can leave it in the fridge to chill if you like. It’s then ready to drink.
5. Re-sterilise once a week by repeating step 2.
6. Replace with new charcoal after 2 months approx.

So many people I speak to now are more aware of the impact plastic has on our environment. I often hear 'I'm just one person, am I really going to make a difference' the answer is yes because if hundreds and thousands of us start making swaps more people will follow.

Plastic free was virtually unheard of a few years ago, through social media this community has blown up!
.
The swaps that will have the biggest impact will be single use plastics, think of you bathroom!
.
1. Swap shampoo and conditioner for bars.
2. Shower gel for soap bars
3. Disposaple razors for a safety razor.
4. Plastic toothbrush for bamboo.
5. Mouthwash in a plastic bottle for an aluminium or glass bottle.
6. Plastic sponges for natural sponges or sisal bags.
.
Always remember to take your reusable bags. Invest in a water bottle, bamboo cutlery and a stainless steel lunch box!
.
Use what you have, replace one thing at a time, this will save you from getting overwhelmed and help you enjoy each swap at a time!

How to replace your Zao mascara refillable!

I've used Zao mascara for over a year now and haven't looked back!
.
Like most make up essentials you assume all is safe - of course they are - aren't they?
.
My reasons for moving away from shop bought bought mascara!
.
1. Most brands will contain
parabens are used as preservatives. They are added to makeup to stop the growth of microbes, fungi and bacteria in order to extend shelf life. These chemicals are absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the tiny pores around your eyes. Parabens have also been linked to breast cancer.
.
2. Synthetic dyes are often used as a colorant to achieve the rich dark color that mascara offers. These are labeled as FD&C or D&C, followed by a color and a number (e.g. FD&C Red No. 6, D&C Green No. 6).
.
3. Coal Tar Dyes used as a colorant in mascara and contain heavy metals. To avoid coal tar dyes. Despite the fact that they have been proven carcinogenic, the 1938 Act includes a specific exemption for them.
.
4. Aluminum powder can impair the body’s ability to excrete mercury. This can result in making any amount of mercury that is in the body even more toxic.
.
5. Formaldehyde is used in mascara as a preservative and is a known carcinogen.
.
Zao ingredients are 100% natural. 51% of the mascara ingredients is organic. All products have an official Ecocert certification. All vegan and completely cruelty free.
.
Whilst not completely plastic free they are refillable, the refillable tubes are recyclable!
.
The mascara comes off with ease using reusable pads and a cleanser unlike shop bought mascara which I find takes and age to remove!

Its been a very strange time for most, personally its equally been one of my best years (arrival of our little lockdown baby Lenny) and the worst year!

Having got through lockdown and launching MidzPlasticFree online, things weren't looking too bad at Midz HQ!

The constant changing of Tiers and breast cancer diagnosis earlier this month has definitely thrown a spanner or two in the mix!
.
Tonight I will be with my boys reflecting on the last 12 months and getting ready to kick Cancer straight in the proverbials - 2021 I'm coming for you 😍

I will be soldiering on with Midz as normal. It is even more important to me now that I use natural, organic and plastic free products 💪
